Review: 2005 Pedroncelli Port

By Duane Pemberton
Winery website:
Price: $19

Many wine lovers appreciate a good port-style (or fortified) wine with dessert or to simply lightly sip on with a cigar or pipe. This 2005 port-style wine from Pedroncelli offers a great deal of complexity at a price that won’t break the bank.

Technical Data:

  • Appellation: Dry Creek Valley
  • Aging: 48 months
  • Alcohol: 19%
  • Acidity: .555g/100ml
  • pH: 3.74
  • Residual sugar: 9.8%
  • Bottled in 500ml glass.

Nose: Cigar-laced black raspberry, dark chocolate, tar, plum sauce, bubble-gum and a hint of strawberry.

Taste: A very smooth port with beautiful flavors of black raspberry, black plums, peppercorns, dark chocolate and layers of pipe tobacco with road tar. Really good mid palate and a linger finish that hangs around longer than that annoying neighbor that doesn’t know when to leave.

W.E.P. Rating: 90%
