Six Percent Increase for South African Wines in 2012

Gomberg-Fredrickson’s latest report shows a 6% increase in South African wine imports during a six-month period – in the same time as global imports on the whole had decreased.

Johann Meissenheimer, Managing Director of the Indigo Wine Group, commented, “I attribute the continued growth of the category directly to retailers and restaurateurs, who are offering a wider range of South African wines both in terms of price points and viticultural areas – and to the mainstream wine drinker taking notice.”

“My goal for Indigo, as the top US importer specializing in South African wines, is to bring to consumers brands that exemplify the best South Africa has to offer. We want consumers to understand that across the board and at every price point South African wines are one of the few true values left in the wine world.”
