For Robert Smasne, winemaking is much more than just a passion, it’s a family affair steeped deeply into farming the greater Prosser, WA area. It’s about a lifelong dream to create a family brand that showcases terrior from some of Columbia Valley’s top AVA’s in wines at prices for all budgets.
While his Woodinville location has been open for well over a year now, this new addition in the Southridge area of Kennewick allows him to offer his wines to fans of Smasne Cellars in a nice venue at a great location. Shortly before the cutting of the ribbon, the City announced that it was officially “Smasne Cellars Day” in Kennewich – his daughter was by his side to do the cutting.
Robert is a family man that’s dedicated to his kids and to his customers – if you spend much time at all with him, you’ll hear him talk a great deal about his kids and parents who still live in the Prosser area.
Professionally, he still makes wines and/or consults for over 20 wineries and has done a good job so far, solidifying himself as an adept winemaker who enjoys making all different styles and varietals.
Overall, I’d guess there was roughly 300 people that showed up throughout the day – he had a live band playing music from 6-9pm, it was quite the party. This crowd gives good promise that the new Smasne tasting room will be a success for both the business and surrounding community – it was great to see them come out in support.
