2008 NxNW Cabernet Sauvignon – Review

King Estate winery has several brands under its  corporate umbrella, one of which is North by Northwest – wines that feature fruit from Washington State. They source from some of Washington’s best vineyard sites and work diligently to make wines that over-deliver quality for the price.

Technical Data:

  • Vineyard Sources: 22% Kiona, 15% Alder Ridge, 15% Wallula, 14% Elephant Mountain, 13% Seven Hills East, 11% Pepper Bridge and 10% Seven Hills West
  • Blend: 90% Cab and 10% Merlot
  • Age in oak: 15 months in French and American Oak
  • Alcohol: 14.5%
  • TA: 0.61 g/100 ml
  • pH: 3.64
  • Production: 3,500 Cases
  • Price: $25

Nose: Black raspberries, chocolate, spice, baseball mitt, cherries and a touch of fabreeze.

Taste: Take 80% dark chocolate and combine it with ink-laced raspberries and cherries then throw in a torn-up baseball mitt, black pepper and spice – that’s what I get from this wine. This is a huge-tasting cab at it’s price-point with solid fruit, kick-ass tannins and a finish that hangs out for weeks. A total no-brainer, go-to-cab for the money.

W.E.P. Rating: 100%
