Middle Sister wines is for those women out there who want a little fun in the glass – made by women who are having a ball making wines that are directly aimed at being a “daily drinker”. The two most popular white grapes from California are Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio so this review will take a closer look at the “Drama Queen” and “Smarty Pants”.
“Smarty Pants” Chardonnay – W.E.P. Rating: 85%
Technical Data:
- Grapes: 76% Chardonnay / 24% “mixed white grapes”
- Alcohol: 13%
- Stainless Fermented
- Residual Sugar: .80 g/100ml
- Price: $12
Nose: Toasted cantelope, banana peel, grapefruit and a nice hint of chalk-dust.
Taste: Solid fruit up front, the melons, banana’s and an almost tropical note are very evident to me. A good transition across the mid palate that has a smidgen of acids pick things up towards the end, however, not quite as much as I’d like.
“Drama Queen” Pinot Grigio – W.E.P. Rating: 90%
Technical Data:
- Grapes: 76% Pinot Grigio/ 12% Chenin Blanc / 12% Chardonnay
- Alcohol: 13%
- Stainless Fermented
- Residual Sugar: .80 g/100ml
- Price: $12
Nose: Cantelope, honeydew and some nice hints of jasmine, lime and lemons.
Taste: Lemons, kiwi, white grapefruit, and a smidgen of jasmine. Good fruit component on the front-end – the melons start picking up across the mid palate and showcase a slight touch of vanilla and cantaloupe on the finish.
