The story about Matt Loso of Matthew’s Cellars

By now, many folks know that Matt Loso left the winery he started several years ago, Matthew’s Cellars, however, what most don’t know is the full story about why he left.

WineFoot sources who have full knowledge about what went down tell us that Matt simply made too many promises to investors – went through all the cash – and couldn’t pay them back. He did this to two west-coast investors and two from the east-coast. Unfortunately for Matt, the winery never did become profitable enough to support his spending habits and pay them back, they sued him and won – getting full control of the winery and booting out Matt in the process.

The whole thing here really blows because Matt had a loyal following of his wines, and we’re concerned that there may be too much lost in whatever new wines the winery churns out. Additionally, we do hope the best for Matt’s future endeavors.

    Interesting view on this story…….

  • I think so

This story seems to be backed up here in the WLTV forums:

    By the following poster:

“The winefoot article is quite accurate.Frankly I am suprised he held on this long.Matt is a great guy and talented winemaker but tended to spend more than he generated.I know his biggest investor personally so I will keep my coments generic. He is young and hopefully will recover from this.”

  • It’s true

It’s true, I’ve heard the same story from people all over the wine industry. Why would Loso leave a seemingly successful winery which he himself built from the ground up. Of course he got booted. Don’t forget that Matt was still in charge until the end of the 2007 Harvest, so ’06 and ’07 vintages which will be released over the next couple of years are still his. If you have tasted his ’05 Claret and ’05 Syrah, you can see how terrible they are, because he was probably to busy spending other people’s money to actually make good wine. My guess is the ’06 and ’07 will probably be bad too, and we won’t see good wine from Matthews again until the 2008 or the 2009 vintages are released!

Oh I am sorry. Today, I finally bought the 1999-2003 red series in that lovely wooden box. The good news I have just found out where he is and how I can get his wine. He obviousl is better with grapes than cash.

Matthew, you were a cheat 15 years ago and screwed over others and it doesnt surprise me that you had done it again. You were never an honest man even as a young adult. I believe that you get what you deserve and fame and fortune is not one of them. God help anyone who invests with you.
